When developers take a very modern hotel and put it inside a very old historic building, sometimes it works, sometimes not. At the Novotel Cusco, it works. The hotel is housed in a beautiful, historic Spanish colonish courtyard building, about a block and a half from Cusco’s main square or Plaza de Armas.

Rooms are modern, I had a nice big bed with a flat screen TV and very stylish bathroom with a tub. The area was quiet and I had a view overlooking the rooftops and the local foothills.

Location is perfect. You are only a block and a half from the Plaza de Armas and it can be walked safely even late at night. The hotel is also a few steps from the Machu Picchu museum.

Food was excellent. As with many hotels in Cusco, breakfast is included and I enjoyed it every morning. They had the standard Peruvian buffet, with a good selection of meats, cheeses, fruits, waffles and pancakes, bacon and a chef cooking omlettes. There was also grains and cereals and a good selection of breads, rolls and toast. Fresh juice and coffee was also there. The lobby is the glassed over courtyard of the building and I enjoyed taking my breakfast in the bright, sunny room. Onsite, there are two restaurants, Le Cave and Cote Jardin as well as Le Bar.

The hotel has excellent WiFi, 24 hour security and full concierge services including tour booking. They also offer special programs for kids.
