Island Shangri-La

I’ve written a detailed piece about my lunch at Summer Palace for Go World Travel, but wanted to share some of the images here. Summer Palace is the Michelin star-rated Cantonese restaurant inside the Island Shangri-La hotel in Hong Kong.

The hotel is one of my favorite places to stay in Hong Kong, it’s in Admiralty in Central and located right above the luxurious Pacific Place mall. It’s also right above an MTR station. The rooms and suites have spectacular views of the skyline of Central and Victoria Harbour, all the way to Kowloon.

Summer Palace is an elegant, formal Chinese restaurant with an extensive menu filled with Cantonese classics. They also have some seasonal additions to the menu as well as a vast dim sum lunch service. Aside from the great food, the restaurant has a deep wine cellar, combined with that of the hotel’s French restaurant, Restaurant Petrus.

I tried a mix of dim sum selections along with some of the entrees that excited me, like the Wagyu beef stir-fried in homemade XO sauce.

Dessert was quite spectacular with a unique sweet soup, along with a lotus seed pastry puff and a deep-fried sesame dumpling filled with sweet egg yolk custard. The room itself is large and elegant, befitting the formal and attentive service.
