Sunday champagne brunches combine two of my favorite things, champagne and breakfast. While I might sample the more lunch-oriented items at a brunch, it’s those breakfast classics I really enjoy. I usually choose the same items, and enjoy comparing how they are prepared and served at different restaurants. Los Angeles has a lot of wonderful Sunday champagne brunches, here are my top five:
Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air
This Sunday champagne brunch offers the luxurious exclusivity of what I think is Los Angeles’ best hotel. Hidden on a residential street off Sunset Blvd., the Hotel Bel-Air (701 Stone Canyon Road) is an oasis from the busy city. Sunday brunch is served at Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air, the hotel’s restaurant. The meal is served on the terrace, with live music and a Bloody Mary bar ($14 each). The price is $68 which includes a glass of champagne or a Bellini cocktail. Brunch is served on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This foodie haven on Melrose serves a very foodie Sunday brunch, with bottomless Mimosas available. Taste (8454 Melrose) one of my favorite restaurants and embraces an artisan, farm-to-table concept. A full menu is served with most items well under $20. Bottomless Mimosas are available for $15. Brunch is served from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
STREET (742 North Highland Avenue) is a great restaurant from Los Angeles culinary pioneer Susan Feniger, They serve a brunch with unlimited small tasting plates for $25 per person. Bottomless Mimosas are $15. The menu is a great variety of international food, keeping with the restaurant’s street food theme and it all works very well. Brunch is served Saturday and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
An unlimited tasting brunch is served at Border Grill’s DTLA location (445 South Figueroa), another restaurant from Susan Feniger (with long-time kitchen partner Mary Sue Milliken) for $19.99. This innovative restaurant is known for amazing Mexican food and that’s what’s featured at their brunch. Bottomless Mimosas are $10. Brunch is served Saturday and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Located on the edge of Los Angeles county, a short drive up the Pacific Coast Highway, Geoffrey’s (27400 Pacific Coast Highway) offers the best view of any brunch spot in Los Angeles. Tables, especially those on the large outside deck, have postcard views of the Pacific Ocean and the Malibu coastline. A full brunch menu is served and a full bar (and excellent bartenders) serve champagne and other cocktails. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
