With a sumptuous, hand-sewn leather interior, exotic wood and suede accents and every driver aid and passenger entertainment system known to man (including a little refrigerator in the center console), the 2015 Cadillac Escalade 4WD Platinum makes quite a statement. With a 6.2L V8 packing 421 HP and a 6 second 0-60 time, sometimes that statement is watch the back of my Escalade as I blow your doors off in style.
Like other new Cadillacs I’ve driven, I’m first impressed with the build quality and the fit and finish. No rattles, no loose pieces, a really nice, luxurious and vast interior with a firm but comfortable suspension and handling. Although big, the Escalade is comfortable to drive, magnetic ride control gives a smooth ride regardless of the road surface.
As always, I will be taking the Escalade on a roadtrip to do my review, driving it under various conditions from canyons to freeways and everything in between. It’s not my first experience in the Escalade. I did a weekend getaway with the Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa and the luxury resort uses Cadillac Escalades to transport their guests. Yes, I went wine tasting through Sonoma in this beautiful Escalade. Riding, not driving, of course. I didn’t spill my wine once.
I’ll be taking my 2015 Escalade 4WD Platinum on a roadtrip to Palm Springs and taking advantage of the cylinder deactivation, which turns the V8 into a V4 when the added power isn’t needed, like for cruising on the freeway. Even with all the luxury inside, the Escalade is rated at 21 MPG on the highway. I’ll be trying out all the safety and driving aids, along with all the cameras and other amenities that make this big vehicle a pleasure to drive. I’ve also been exploring the power folding features on the second and third rows of seats. There are controls for the driver and next to the tailgate that allow you to fold the seats over automatically.
